The history

The “Lace bobbin”  art has unknown origins, some say that it dates back to the Etruscans others a later date. Giacomo Cerutti , called “Pitocchietto” depicted the lace makers on canvas,  with bowed heads over the bobbin , in a painting that adorned the rooms of  Padernello castle for about a century.

The first lace makers  of Cantù  were the nuns of the Umiliate orders , who lived in a convent in Cantù and were associated with the Benedettines of Cluny.
At the beginning of 1400, in the cloister of Santa Maria, the nuns worked to create the vestments for Churches, from altar tablecloths  to priests clothing. Over time, the lace became so popular that it began to be applied to girls wedding collections and to ladies clothing
